Melwood Technology Center 1 1

UPMC Melwood Technology Center

Construction Cost: $5 Million
Completion Date: 2007
Gross Area: 52,000 SF
LEED Certified

This project, located in the Shadyside / Oakland technology corridor in Pittsburgh, PA entailed the renovation and adaptive reuse of a former truck engine manufacturing and administrative building into a 3-level, 52,000 SF Class A office and flex space building for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Long span roof trusses over the former manufacturing and assembly bays have now become a dramatic feature of the new building.

All new mechanical, electrical, curtain wall systems and 10,000 SF of mezzanine floor are components of this renovation. A new free-standing, 3-level elevator, stair tower and main entry is pulled away from the building so as not to diminish the available floor area with non-rentable core elements and to also function as a distinctive entry portal for the building. The building also includes one structured parking deck and on grade parking for 300 vehicles.
