The Renaissance 3 Architects / Westlake Reed Leskosky joint venture designed a renovation and addition to an existing 25,000 SF auditorium building, transforming it into a 66,000 SF Performing Arts Center. A new 300-seat “black box” theatre, a 160-seat dance studio with corresponding rehearsal rooms, and a new scene shop will be appended to the existing 800-seat Miller Auditorium, which will be renovated. The building will also contain design classrooms and offices inserted into the undersized 1970’s lobby adjoining the auditorium. The project reconciles an existing building and the historic Quad of Slippery Rock University. Located in western Pennsylvania, the project negotiates the significant topography of the region, accommodates new trajectories in student and patron circulation on campus, and imprints the arts onto campus.
