The Ellsworth Victorian Condominiums located on Ellsworth Avenue in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh are two duplexes, i.e. four single family dwellings, with each duplex designed to resemble and appear as a large Victorian house.
This project also referenced the information found in the Victorian-era pattern books and also help us with finding trim, siding and window detailing that was authentic for the period.
Attention to scale and proportion of the detailing of the masonry and trim around the garage doors helped in the design challenge of inserting four double wide garage doors into a period design format that never had to address garages as an element of the Victorian façade vocabulary.
