Designed for Discovery

Designed as a new 8,000-square-foot branch location for a biomedical company, this workplace brings together scientific research, clean room manufacturing, and office support within a single connected ecosystem. Developed in partnership with local academic and medical institutions, the space reflects the intersection of research, collaboration, and technological advancement.

At the heart of the design is the concept of “Mankind vs. Machine” – an exploration of the relationship between human ingenuity and the precision of modern manufacturing. Rather than viewing these forces as opposites, the design celebrates their coexistence through materiality, lighting, and movement.

A Connected Journey

The floor plan is organized around a singular circulation spine that creates an intentional procession through the workplace. Visitors experience moments of discovery as they move through corridors, where views into the clean rooms, manufacturing labs, and scientific research spaces place innovation on display.

Although the circulation path turns around several corners, a continuous linear lighting element unifies the entire experience. Acting as both wayfinding and storytelling, the lighting establishes a visual language that distinguishes collaboration zones, social gathering spaces, and quieter areas intended for focused work. The result is an intuitive environment that guides occupants forward, while reinforcing connection across the workplace.

By integrating research laboratories, clean manufacturing, and collaborative workspaces within a unified architectural language, an environment is created where science is visible, ideas are shared, and innovation is celebrated.
