Re:Build Manufacturing - R3A Architecture

Re:Build Manufacturing (RBM) is a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility which aims to bring manufacturing jobs back to America using advanced technology and precision machining solutions. Located at the former ALCOA (ALuminum Company Of America) factory site in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, a site with deep historical roots in the Pittsburgh steel and industrial community, R3A is responsible for modernizing the once abandoned 9-acre site into a world-class manufacturing facility. This involved renovating the four existing buildings totaling 175,000 square feet and caked in hazardous materials, dilapidated interior structures, and other substantial obstacles throughout. R3A worked with the building’s existing robust steel structure to bring the exterior building envelope up to code and energy efficient, capable of providing heating and air conditioning within the over 10 million cubic feet interiors; providing a heavy-duty concrete surface for manufacturing equipment, encouraging natural daylighting via sawtooth roofs, and improved vehicular/truck access to the site.

After completing a test-fit analysis of the site, R3A designed a 15,000sf interior Class-A office space for the RBM Team within the 175,000sf building footprint. This office space would provide heads-down desk space, private offices, conference and huddle rooms, a training room with a bisecting partition wall, lounge spaces and a large kitchen breakroom for all RBM’s employees without compromising the connection between the four manufacturing buildings.

RE:Build Manufacturing by RIDC has been awarded NAIOP Pittsburgh’s Best Industrial Renovation Project for 2024. The 175,000-square-foot Re:Build Manufacturing project, a partnership between RIDC and WCIDC, is revitalizing New Kensington and bringing skilled manufacturing jobs back to the Pittsburgh region.
