Program

Eliminate two unused second floor hallway closets and enlarge the primary ensuite bathroom to include a walk-in shower, separate tub, and dual-sink vanity with storage. Update the new, larger bathroom with elevated finishes to reflect other upgrades made to the home.

FLOOR PLAN LAYOUT

Through various space planning iterations of the design process, the most functional layout for this homeowner resulted in the need to relocate the existing toilet plumbing stack. This major effort required additional engineering, however doing so allowed for the deep, freestanding tub to be featured directly centered in front of the double windows. To provide the maximum amount of storage, the custom vanity includes power within the drawers and towers to allow for devices to be charged and out of sight when not in use. An arched niche matching the recessed medicine cabinet mirrors and foot ledge in the oversized shower allow for easy maneuverability during bathing. Utilizing clear glass around the shower assists in maintaining an open feel in this newly renovated space.

MATERIAL SELECTION

Material selection was a critical component of this renovation. The palette was built around the floor tile – a nod to a traditional pattern, incorporating a blue marble quatrefoils where the white marble squares meet. A larger blue quatrefoil mosaic tile accents the shower niche and create harmony amongst the various tiles used. The wall tile pattern mimics the wall base in the room and soften the walls with a cleanable texture. Though white oak has recently been popular lately, to stay true to the rest of the home, driftwood stained maple was selected for the vanity cabinets along with a soft gray veined marble-look quartz. Tall wainscot with decorative molding throughout adds to the character, connecting this bathroom design to the rest of the home.

QUIET LUXURY

This primary bathroom renovation centers on a calming retreat, where a generous soaking tub is thoughtfully positioned beneath two street-facing windows to capture abundant natural light while maintaining a sense of privacy. The placement transforms the tub into a focal point, connecting the interior experience to the rhythm of the neighborhood beyond and enhancing the room’s openness and serenity. Carefully balanced proportions, refined detailing, and a restrained material palette create a space that feels both luxurious and grounded; an inviting sanctuary designed for daily use and quiet restoration.

FUNCTIONAL STORAGE

This primary bathroom renovation transforms everyday routines into a refined, spa-like experience through thoughtfully designed custom cabinetry. A tailored vanity with dual sinks anchors the space, providing generous counter area and seamless functionality for shared use, while maintaining a clean, cohesive aesthetic. Flanking tall storage towers maximize vertical space, discreetly housing linens and personal items to reduce visual clutter and enhance organization. Crafted with attention to proportion, materiality, and detail, the cabinetry elevates both the beauty and performance of the bathroom, reflecting our firm’s commitment to creating residential spaces that are as practical as they are timeless.

EVERY INCH COUNTS

This large shower has been reimagined as a sculptural and highly functional space, prioritizing openness without the inclusion of a built-in bench. Instead, a graceful arched niche provides elegant, integrated storage, echoing the curved forms of the recessed medicine cabinet mirrors and creating a cohesive design language throughout the room. A discreet foot ledge offers practical comfort for daily use while preserving the shower’s clean lines and spacious feel. The result is a refined, modern retreat where thoughtful detailing and purposeful restraint elevate both form and function.
