Renaissance 3 Architects, P.C., in collaboration with MoodyNolan Inc. recently designed a fitness/wellness center that focuses on all aspects of physical health education for Lincoln University. The facility is designed with the Main Street concept where a multitude of program elements line the central circulation spine.
Main Street also serves as a connector between the recently expanded south campus to the main north campus. The main level of the facility houses fitness, physical education, the wellness center and food service. The fitness component includes a multi-purpose activity court, a variety of fitness spaces, multipurpose rooms, locker rooms, a bouldering surface and a rock climbing wall. The academic component includes classrooms with perimeter A/V collaboration systems, physical education labs and a 100 seat, high-tech, tiered lecture hall. The campus wellness center houses exam rooms, a CPR training room, physician offices, a laboratory and a pharmacy. A multi-station servery, dining room, and a cafe comprise the food service component.
The upper level houses additional physical education space, the counseling center, a variety of fitness atmospheres and an elevated track. The student center provides lounge space throughout the building and outdoor gathering spaces. High-performance audio-visual and flexible technology systems are incorporated throughout the building to stimulate innovative thinking. The center is designed with sustainable principles in mind. An existing detention pond will be reconstructed as a water feature central to the newly expanded south campus
