With our full-service expertise, we have completed projects in a variety of industries and cultivated a wealth of institutional knowledge. Some of our most robustly served markets include:
Science + Technology
With over 60 STEM-centered projects under our belt, we have engaged with a diverse array of subjects and their practitioners, ranging from computer science, to nuclear engineering, to chemistry, life sciences, and more. When designing laboratories, we engage holistically with the researchers who will be using them — not simply with the work they produce. In this way, we leverage our expertise and curiosity to create spaces that are both conducive to the methodologies of their field and to the health and wellbeing of their personnel.
Academic
R3A has cultivated deep partnerships with academic organizations within the region and beyond. To-date, we have completed over 100 projects in collaboration with prestigious clients such as Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, Penn State University, and more. Our experience in this arena empowers us to deeply interrogate and understand the needs of students, faculty, and administrators in all disciplines, at all levels of engagement.
Community + Cultural
As residents of the Pittsburgh region and citizens of an increasingly global community, we prioritize stewardship of our city and its people. Several of our staff sit on nonprofit boards, and the firm has often conducted pro-bono work and volunteering efforts in service of supporting the region. In this market, we have developed cost-effective, creative solutions for community centers, food banks, housing projects, schools, and more.
Manufacturing
We appreciate that a smooth workflow is essential to a productive and profitable manufacturing operation. With vast experience in spatial planning and programming, R3A is well positioned to tackle any and all aspects of Industry 4.0, including additive manufacturing (ARM @ Mill19), AI + robotic integration (AI Maker Space @ CMU; ARM @ Mill19), digital twinning (Nextovation Digital Foundry). In order to support cutting-edge industry technology and fabrication methods, manufacturing spaces need to work as hard as the staff who operate within them. We understand the demand for robust IT and energy systems, as well as the necessity of future-proofing through flexible physical and digital infrastructure.
Workplace
The past few years have seen the concept of a “workplace” rapidly evolving. No longer is work confined to one physical location — companies must work closely with their staff to determine the physical / technological demands for their specific goals. R3A is particularly skilled in prioritizing employee health and wellness in our office projects. In over 80 workplace projects, we have tackled complex programs ranging from cafes to cadaver labs.
